Citric acid
This remedy can be used in two ways, depending on the task.

If you need to get rid of spot contamination, mix acid with washing powder in a ratio of 1:2. Apply the mix to the pre-wet socks. Rub the dirty places with your hands, leave the thing to lie for an hour, and then rinse thoroughly in clean water. After you can wash in the usual way – manually or in the machine.
If you need to clean socks completely, pour a litre of water into a basin – you can take both cold and warm – and add one or two tablespoons of citric acid. Put things in the liquid and leave to soak for a couple of hours. At the end, also rinse in water and wash.
Aspirin
You will need a tablespoon of aspirin powder for the job. Grind a couple of tablets and dilute in a litre of warm or room temperature water. Put the socks in the solution for a few hours – you can even leave them overnight. When they soak, rinse and wash with soap and water.
By the way, aspirin can also be useful for machine washing. A couple of tablets also need to be crushed, and then add to the washing powder.
With table vinegar
Mix it with warm water in a ratio of 1 teaspoon of vinegar per litre. Then put the socks in the solution and leave them to soak for an hour. When the vinegar has taken effect, you can rinse the socks and wash them by hand or machine.
